Our city calculators combine a workload estimate with available local pricing evidence. They distinguish a requested hourly rate from a company’s customer price, and an estimate from a confirmed quote.
Understand the unit before comparing the number
One cleaner-hour means one person cleaning for one hour. Two cleaners working for two hours provide four cleaner-hours. The team may finish sooner on the clock, but the total labour is still four hours.
A published price of $100 per hour for a two-person team is $50 per cleaner-hour. This is an illustrative conversion, not a market-rate claim. For a flat quote, make the conversion only when both the team size and duration are stated.
What changes the workload?
Bathrooms, grease, accumulated dust, clutter and the number of surfaces can matter as much as floor area. An empty property avoids working around belongings but may add inside cabinets and appliances. A renovation clean has a different scope from maintaining a furnished home.
Tell providers about the starting condition. Photographs of relevant rooms can help, but avoid including personal documents or valuables. List optional tasks separately so the provider can explain their effect on time and price.
What changes the invoice?
Check the minimum booking, supplies, equipment, travel or parking charges, booking fees and applicable sales taxes. A lower hourly rate can still produce a higher visit total if its minimum is longer or required extras are excluded.
Recurring offers also differ. A company may quote a lower rate for later visits while charging the first visit in full. Compare the first clean, the maintenance clean and the expected annual total separately.
Compare hiring arrangements fairly
For a self-employed cleaner, start with the agreed service price and confirm invoice taxes. For direct employment, start with the agreed gross wage and add employer costs. A cleaning company’s customer tariff already reflects its own employment and operating costs; do not add another payroll percentage on top.
See taxes and payroll for the distinction. A marketplace listing alone does not establish which arrangement applies.
Turn the estimate into a decision
- Select the service and write a scope.
- Use your local calculator to explore the budget.
- Request comparable written quotes.
- Compare the complete cost and responsibilities.
- Agree how extra work and changes will be approved.
The aim is a price you understand for work you have defined. Use our quote comparison guide to check what each offer actually includes.
