Start by identifying the areas to be cleaned and any care instructions or warranty requirements. Tell the provider about previous treatments and problem spots.
Understand the proposed method
Ask what method will be used, why it suits the carpet and what preparation it requires. Do not assume that two services described as “steam cleaning” use the same process or equipment.
The quote should explain whether inspection, vacuuming, spot treatment and the main clean are included. If the material is uncertain or delicate, ask whether a small test is appropriate before wider treatment.
Give useful information about stains
Describe what caused a mark, when it happened and what you have already applied. A spill, recurring odour and permanent colour change are different problems. Ask what outcome is realistic and whether treatment has a separate price.
A stain-removal promise should explain its limits. Cleaning may not reverse dye loss, wear, burns or damage to the backing or underlay.
Check furniture and access
Confirm which items the provider will move and which must be moved beforehand. Heavy furniture, electronics and fragile pieces need explicit arrangements. Tell the provider about stairs, parking and the route for equipment.
Ask how furniture will be returned and whether protective blocks or tabs are required by the treatment process.
Plan for drying
Get aftercare instructions for ventilation, walking on the carpet and replacing furniture. Drying depends on the process and conditions, so an exact universal drying time is not a reliable promise.
Do not cover a damp carpet or rush furniture back contrary to the provider’s instructions. If moisture persists unexpectedly, contact the provider.
Compare complete prices
Record rooms or measured area, stairs, treatments, furniture moving, minimum charges and taxes. A residential cleaner-hour benchmark should not substitute for a carpet specialist’s quote.
